The Dangers Of Spray Tanning Are Often Ignored

Spray tanning salons have popped up in many cities in recent years. More and more people are getting tans by various sunless tanning methods.

The main reason is that many people believe that it is safe. This is actually half the story and it is not entirely accurate.

The Food and Drug Administration regards the active ingredient in spray tanning solutions to be safe when applied topically on the skin. People interpreted such as statement as meaning spray tanning is safe.

Dihyroxyacetone might be safe when applied on the skin but it is dangerous if inhaled or if it comes in contact with the face, especially the eyes, lips and nostrils.

The Food and Drug Administration actually advises people to wear eye goggles, nose plugs and to cover their lips when getting a spray on tan. This advice is ignored because the tanning salons don’t enforce such recommendations.

Another troubling aspect is that spray tanning solutions also include other chemicals that are very potent and dangerous to the health of people. Chemicals such as mercury are sometimes used and mercury is indeed dangerous.

Unfortunately this information is often times ignored because the fallacy that spray tanning is safe dominates peoples’ perception of sunless tans.

Sunless tanning could very well prove to be safe if people use caution. It is very important that the label with the ingredients be read and understood because these are harmful chemicals we’re talking about.

The more aware a person is the less likely they will suffer negative consequences. Tanning salons won’t warn you about the dangers because if they did, they might lose a customer.

The more a person knows and the more aware they are the less likelihood for regret. Don’t rely on the tanning salon to protect your health, you must be proactive in this regard. Their main interest is to make money and not your health.

Common sense is a great thing and common sense should tell us that anything artificial is not necessarily better than something that is natural.

Excessive sun rays is indeed harmful to the skin but thinking that an artificial sunless tan is the solution is a wrong way of looking at things.

Truth be told spray tanning is relatively unknown as far as negative repercussions go. It will take a lot more research and testing before we can claim spray tanning is indeed safe.

Perhaps it would be best if we used caution whenever we decide to enter a spray tanning booth.
