Understanding Shingles Pain as a Symptom

Friday, August 7th, 2009

People who have shingles do not just suffer from unsightly rashes that can last for weeks. They also suffer form terrible shingles pain. What is shingles pain and how can it affect you?

Pain Before the Rashes

The condition is not just detected by the outbreak of rashes alone. The first real sign of shingles is shingles pain. The reason why shingles pain occurs first before the rashes is that damage to the nerves happens first.

The virus which causes chicken pox usually gets stored in a nerve near the spinal cord once an individual recuperates from chicken pox. When the virus is reactivated, it can cause the nerve to become inflamed which is the initial cause of shingles pain. As the virus travels to the skin and becomes obvious as rashes, the pain may begin to worsen. The degree and constancy of the pain however varies from one individual to another.

Post Herpetic Neuralgia (PHN)

In a handful of people who have shingles, the shingles pain may persist even after the shingles rashes disappear. This is a condition known as post herpetic neuralgia. It is believed that the initial swelling of the nerve may result in the nerve defensively releasing substance P which is the known signal for pain. People with severe shingles may have severely damaged nerves, thus resulting in chronic shingles pain known as post herpetic neuralgia.

Age and PHN

Shingles have higher chances of occurring in older individuals than in younger people. This is because older individuals have weaker immune systems due to the natural ageing of their bodies’ systems. There is also a possibility that older people with shingles as well as those who have low stress tolerance have a greater chance of suffering from post herpetic neuralgia. The reasons for this are unclear but it is possible that PHN is also still linked with the body’s level of immunity and capacity for self healing.

Treatment of PHN

Just like shingles, there is no clear cure for shingles pain that has progressed to PHN. It is possible though to ease this chronic shingles pain and possibly even prevent it. Some suggest that early shingles treatment can reduce the possibility of developing PHN.

Shingles treatment may include anti viral medications and pain relievers. For those who already have PHN, doctors may prescribe a number of medications which include antidepressants, lidocaine patches, anticonvulsants and opioids. Further studies are needed to determine how exactly antidepressants work to prevent or ease shingles pain.

Radiation Therapy

There is a possibility that radiation may be able to relieve PHN. A study conducted for more than two decades showed that people who were given small doses of radiation on the affected nerves experienced relief from PHN. Some participants even experienced more relief from radiation doses than from the usual shingles medications. It is believed that radiation can prevent both inflammation and the increase of the virus. The use of radiation however almost always carries some risks.

Ladies Golf Clothes: Starting Your Golf Wardrobe

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Are you new to golf and trying to determine what ladies golf clothes to choose for your golf wardrobe? By now you probably are already aware that golf is the type of sport that carries dress code stipulations.

The first lady golfers from distant past times had to contend with rigid and inflexible dress code rules. Terribly unattractive, very restrictive and awfully uncomfortable would probably be an accurate description of their early golf attire. These ladies had to cope with golf clothes that hampered their golf swing.

Much more relaxed golf dress code rules have evolved over the years. However, there is still a tendency for most golfers to wear traditional golf attire.

There are certain clubs that still enforce specific requirements on dress code. As a starting point for building a golf wardrobe make sure you check on the dress code rules at the clubs on your golfing agenda.

When starting a golf wardrobe it is a great deal like starting a work wardrobe. You start by adding staple items. In ladies golf clothes, staple items would be tops and bottoms.

Today’s market offers a wide variety of ladies golf shirts or tops, golf skorts, pants and shorts. The garments should not be binding or restrictive.

Be sure when selecting golf apparel, especially for summer, the material of the garment is breathable and enables sweat evaporation to take place. This is especially true for tops. Wearing a wet, clingy shirt when golfing is utterly miserable.

When selecting staple pieces of clothes for your golf wardrobe choose neutral colors. This will enable you to extend your wardrobe by being able to mix and match your pieces.

Will you be playing in hot humid conditions a lot? If so, it is best to stay away from black and select light colors. Your work wardrobe might be loaded with black, but for golfing it will absorb the sun’s rays while light colors will reflect.

As you begin choosing ladies golf clothes for your wardrobe, start off by adding a couple of tops that are good quality. Make sure they are breathable and easy care. No fuss wash and dry items that hold up to frequent launderings.

A nice bottom to mix and match with the tops would be the next purchase. Skorts are really popular among many lady golfers. Some of the nicer clubs seem to favor skorts for ladies. As long as you conform to dress code stipulations, then choose the type of ladies golf clothes that best reflects your own personal style because this can help boost your self-confidence.

It could cause severe health complications in both the mother and her unborn baby. Therefore, it is advisable that a woman who is taking Isotretinoin should be checked by an expert. Women who want to get pregnant must avoid the use of Isotretinoin, since it could trigger negative problems not only for mother but most especially for the child.

Oral tetracyclines which could consist of doxycycline, tetracycline or minocycline, may not be a choice on any account, because it is harmful. It has been shown that pregnant women or those who are breast-feeding should avoid the use of this drug at all costs, because it may produce side effects that are nothing short of life-threatening to you and your child, although the most common side effect is the permanent discoloration of your teeth or / and bone disorders.

Topical retinoids, such as tazarotene, adapalene and tretinoin, is the last group that should be completely avoided. For sure, those women, who are pregnant and have acne, really ought to refrain from the heavy therapies mentioned above. Instead, why not settle for more traditional remedies, such as tying your hair back off your face, cleaning your face three or four times a day, changing your pillow cases every day, eating more fresh fruit and avoiding fatty, oily and spicy food?

What Is The Best Cloth For A Tuxedo?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

There are many things that can affect the way your tuxedo looks on you. The color, the style and the fabric are the three most important. Whilst they are each important, it’s the fabric which affects the way the tuxedo feels when you are wearing it, and thus affects how comfortable you are.

You should spend some time researching fabric options whether you buy off the rack or have your tux made specially for you. There are two main options for a tuxedo wool or not wool.

If you decide against wool you can opt for silk, linen or blends. Blended fabrics are often a basic wool mixed with man-made fibers and are used sometimes to reduce cost, and to give the fabric combined qualities of both fabrics.

Linen is loved by the tailor because it’s easy to handle and sew. The problem with wearing a linen tuxedo is that it creases easily and is prone to becoming dirty. Therefore the cost of maintaining a linen tuxedo can be quite considerable. It’s very light to wear though, and can be a great choice summer tux.

We’ve all heard the stories of the Hong Kong tailor. You turn up, order a silk suit, have your measurements taken and 24 hours later your tuxedo arrives in your hotel room. These days it can still be done, but it’s rarely 24 hours, and the cost has increased dramatically over the last few decades. However, a great bargain can still be had and the silk is always of a superior quality.

Wool continues to be the best option. There are a lot of standards of wool, but the finest threads are ideal for any outfit, and if it is possible pick virgin wool that has never been processed.

One type of wool which is quite traditional yet is still a good choice is tweed. Tweed is a heavyweight wool and looks best on a slim frame and is certainly best suited to the winter months.

The finest choice of wool is worsted. It’s hard wearing and can be woven into light or heavyweight cloths. It is very crease resistant and is suitable to be worn the whole year round.

Choosing The Right CompTIA Network Plus Training For You in 2009

Friday, March 27th, 2009

In the fast-paced world we live in, support workers who can fix PC’s and networks, and offer regular assistance to users, are vital in every sector of the economy. As we’re all becoming massively more reliant on advanced technology, we in turn emerge as more reliant on the commercially qualified networking professionals, who keep the systems going.

Most of us would love to think that our jobs will remain secure and our work prospects are protected, but the growing likelihood for most jobs in England today is that security may be a thing of the past. Now, we only experience security through a swiftly increasing marketplace, fuelled by a shortfall of trained staff. This shortage creates the appropriate background for market-security - a far better situation.

Offering the computing business as an example, the 2006 e-Skills survey showed a skills gap in Great Britain of over 26 percent. To put it another way, this clearly demonstrates that the UK can only find three properly accredited workers for each 4 positions available at the moment. This one idea alone underpins why the UK urgently requires many more new trainees to get into the IT sector. Undoubtedly, it really is such a perfect time to retrain into IT.

Getting to the most fitting career option is fraught with stress - so what research do we need to do and what sort of questions should we ask?

Any advisor who doesn’t ask many questions - the likelihood is they’re just a salesperson. If they’re pushing towards a particular product before getting to know your background and current experience level, then you know it’s true. With a strong background, or maybe some work-based experience (some industry qualifications maybe?) then it’s likely the point from which you begin your studies will vary from a student that is completely new to the industry. If this is going to be your first effort at an IT exam then you might also want to cut your teeth on some basic PC skills training first.

At the top of your shopping list for a training program should be full 24×7 support through trained professional instructors and mentors. Too many companies only provide support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later (but not weekends usually). Never buy certification programs which can only support students via a call-centre messaging system when it’s outside of usual working hours. Trainers will give you every excuse in the book why you don’t need this. The simple fact of the matter is - you need support when you need support - not at times when they find it cheaper to provide it.

World-class organisations offer an online access 24×7 service utilising a variety of support centres from around the world. You get a single, easy-to-use interface that seamlessly selects the best facility available any time of the day or night: Support when you need it. If you fail to get yourself direct-access 24×7 support, you’ll regret it. It may be that you don’t use it late in the night, but you’re bound to use weekends, early mornings or even late evenings at some point.

Most trainers typically provide a shelf full of reference manuals. This isn’t very interesting and not ideal for taking things in. Years of research and study has always demonstrated that connecting physically with our study, will more likely produce memories that are deeper and longer-lasting.

Fully interactive motion videos with demonstrations and practice sessions will forever turn you away from traditional book study. And you’ll find them fun and interesting. All companies must be able to demonstrate a few examples of the materials provided for study. You should hope for instructor-led videos and many interactive sections.

Avoiding training that is delivered purely online is generally a good idea. Physical CD or DVD ROM materials are preferable where offered, as you need to be able to use them whenever it’s convenient for you - and not be totally reliant on your broadband being ‘up’ 100 percent of the time.

Commercial certification is now, undoubtedly, already replacing the traditional routes into the industry - why then is this the case? With university education costs spiralling out of control, plus the IT sector’s general opinion that accreditation-based training most often has much more commercial relevance, there has been a great increase in CISCO, Adobe, Microsoft and CompTIA accredited training programmes that educate students at a much reduced cost in terms of money and time. Clearly, a reasonable amount of associated detail has to be learned, but core specialisation in the particular job function gives a commercially trained student a distinct advantage.

If an employer knows what areas they need covered, then all it takes is an advert for a person with the appropriate exam numbers. Syllabuses are set to exacting standards and do not vary between trainers (in the way that degree courses can).

You’ll come across courses which guarantee examination passes - they always involve paying for the exam fees up-front, at the very beginning of your studies. However, prior to embracing this so-called guarantee, be aware of the facts:

Clearly it isn’t free - you’re still being charged for it - the price has simply been included in the whole thing. Passing first time is everyone’s goal. Taking your exams progressively when it’s appropriate and funding them as you go puts you in a much stronger position to qualify at the first attempt - you put the effort in and are mindful of the investment you’ve made.

Do your exams at a local pro-metric testing centre and look for the very best offer you can at the time. Big margins are made by many companies who get money upfront for exam fees. Many students don’t take them for one reason or another and so the company is quids-in. Surprising as it sounds, there are providers that actually rely on students not sitting all the exams - as that’s very profitable for them. Re-takes of any failed exams with training course providers who offer an ‘Exam Guarantee’ are tightly controlled. You’ll be required to sit pre-tests till you’ve proven conclusively that you can pass.

With the average price of Pro-metric and VUE tests in the United Kingdom costing around 112 pounds, by far the best option is to pay for them as you take them. It’s not in the student’s interests to fork out hundreds or thousands of pounds for exams when enrolling on a course. A commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools are actually the key to your success.

Ensure all your exams are current and commercially required - you’re wasting your time with programs which end up with a useless in-house certificate or plaque. The main industry leaders such as Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco all have globally acknowledged skills programmes. Huge conglomerates such as these will give some sparkle to your CV.

Things To Know Before You Buy A Tuxedo.

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

It is good for all men to know the different types of tuxedo’s that are available in the market nowadays. This is because it is of great importance for men to dress appropriately on occasions where they are required to dress formally. There are many classic and trendy styles that you can find on the market.

There are a few things that you will need to consider before you decide to buy a tuxedo. Although, you can rent a tuxedo for that special occasion, it is always good to have at least one or two tuxedos in any man’s wardrobe. It is always there, ready for you to wear, whenever the occasion calls for it.

While having a tuxedo in your wardrobe is ideal should you be invited to attend a formal affair, it is important to consider how frequently it will be worn. Tuxedos are expensive to purchase, and the quality of the material and style should be considered before making such an expensive purchase. It is, however, an investment into your wardrobe, so being sure to purchase the best possible quality which will also be resilient to wear and style changes is something to seriously think about before making the purchase.

Tuxedos worn in the daytime are generally light colored like gray and nighttime ones are usually black or dark blue. You should make sure that whichever one you wear for your occasion fits you properly and that the fabric has no holes anywhere.

Proper care is essential to get the most life out of your tuxedo. Immediately after wear, it should be carefully inspected for stains or any other imperfections which require immediate attention. It is advised, also, that a tuxedo hang in a garment bag rather than being folded into a drawer.

A tuxedo can be worn with a bow tie, or without, depending on individual style and comfort levels. Traditionally, a black bow-tie is worn with a tuxedo and is suitable for all tuxedos. There are two different types of bow-ties available–pre-tied which just clip around the neck, or ones which require actually being tied. The ones which require tying should be practiced in order to give it the proper appearance.

A single breasted tuxedo generally fits almost all body types and sizes while double-breasted ones look a lot better for taller men who are six feet and above. Double breasted tuxedos usually come in three different styles which are traditional double breasted peak, double breasted notch and double breasted shawl.

Lastly, you should only wear a vest or a cummerbund but not both at the same time. When wearing a cummerbund, it should be facing upwards as the pleats are designed to face up. It is also advisable for you to choose a subdued color or pattern cummerbund combination when attending a more formal event.

Cosmetic Surgery, is it Right for You?

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Being a teen is hard, especially when youre bombarded by unhealthy photoshopped role models. It seems that cosmetic surgery among teens is becoming an unhealthy obsession driven by the need to fit in, not only with peers, but with an unrealistic image of beauty. Its sad when instead of learning to build confidence in your self you would elect to go under the knife.

As so many case studies have proven time and time again, changing your appearance doesnt solve emotional problems (like feeling accepted or more desirable). For this reason cosmetic surgeons will often interview you before accepting you as a patient. The surgeon is going to look for the following:

A) whether they really need it B) if the reasons behind wanting the surgery are valid C) the emotional and mental health of the candidate D) do they have realistic expectations of before and after the surgery.

People often forget that going for a cosmetic procedure is a very serious matter and comes with all the downsides of any other major surgery. Like all medical operations there are always risks and complications besides the pain and discomfort of the recovery process. If you are not mentally prepared for the time it takes to fully recover and see any results, you will regret going through with the surgery.

Other factors that you should consider: Certain surgeries can only be properly done after the body has matured and fully developed, for example, nose jobs are only done after the age of 17-19. There are also laws stating that a person must be of legal age before undergoing cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentation.

Before making up your mind to have plastic surgery:

Keep in mind that every single person at some point (if not for the majority) of their teenage years has either hated or been extremely self conscience about themselves or an aspect of their body. It is a natural part of maturing. As time goes on and we grown into ourselves, we become happier and more confident in our skin. Cosmetic surgery should never be a way to make you feel like youll fit in better, as it is not the right answer.

When youre young the body is undergoing to many changes and so much growth, that what seem too big or small will in all likelihood look perfectly balanced when you stop growing.

As a final thought, you should really step back and ask your self: do I really need surgery? Or would eating right and working out solve the problem? There are way too many kids that are…. this may seem harsh….lazy. Why on earth would anyone want to undergo dangerous surgery that will impact the rest of their life when the same results can be achieved naturally? This applies to more than just loosing weight, there are many natural and proven methods to improve certain physical aspects. Do some research and try everything you can before resorting to surgery. When you feel attractive because you have self esteem it comes across.
