How To Treat Staph Infection

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Staph infection is caused by the Staphylococcus bacteria. These bacteria live harmlessly on the skin or in the nasal cavity of roughly 30 per cent of healthy adults. When a wound or injury occurs they can enter the site of the wound and cause many different infections.

Many times people develop staph infection while staying in the hospital. The doctor did not cause the infection; and it does not mean that they used improperly cleaned tools. Staph infection was already present on the body and entered when the skin was torn or damaged by the procedure. Hospitals are quick to respond and treat staph infections.

There are about 30 types of staph bacteria and each one causes a different kind of infection. These infections can be mild and easy to treat; or they may be more severe and difficult to treat. Some of the most difficult types to treat are strands of the staph bacteria which are resistant to common anti biotic treatments. These require aggressive procedures to rid the body of the infection. With the proper care most of these have a good survival rate. However, there are types of staph infection which can cause death, depending on the type and location of the infection and its severity. Once staph infection reaches the blood stream it can enter the heart or urinary tract; this is a fatal condition.

Many types of staph infection are only on the skin and show up as minor irritation like pimples or boils. But other illnesses such as pneumonia and septicemia can be caused by the staph infection. The best defense is early detection and intervention.

One of the best ways to manage staph infection is when there is a wound or tearing of the skin. The area should be washed immediately with soap and water. Thoroughly dry the wound and apply a topical anti biotic ointment to the area. Place a bandage on the wound to protect it and keep it dry. The bandage needs to be changed several times a day to help keep the wound dry and clean. When changing the bandage, also reapply the anti biotic cream. This will fight any infection that would try to develop in the wounded area.

Another way to manage staph infection keeping it at a minimum is showering every day. Also washing the hands several times throughout the day will help prevent staph infection. Always use clean linens and towels to keep this unwanted infection from spreading.

E Cigarettes Can Help Many Smokers

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

Many people that have been smoking cigarettes for years are finding it harder and harder to smoke. Besides the health effects, there is just nowhere to smoke anymore. More and more places are banning smoking and in a lot of cities it is a crime and you can get a ticket and a fine for getting caught smoking. The fact is if you need to quit smoking and having a difficult time, then you may want to try e cigarettes.

E cigarettes, or electronic cigarettes can be a good alternative to anyone that smokes the real thing. Whether you want to quit smoking or you just cannot smoke around many people anymore, e cigarettes are quickly becoming the newest trend in smoking.

These alternative cigarettes look like a regular cigarette but use a battery. It uses an atomizer and has a cartridge that is filled with nicotine solution. The nicotine solution is a liquid that gets heated up by the atomizer and then gets inhaled. The user ends up inhaling the nicotine and not the smoke.

While there are many great things about e cigarettes, by far the best thing is that there is no tar. Tar terrible for the lungs and causes a lot of air pollution. With these alternative cigarettes, there are really virtually no side effects.

Another advantage is that e cigarettes come in numerous flavors. Pretty much any flavor is available. This is really different than the typical cigarettes. Great flavor plus no odor makes this a great choice for many different people.

Being that there is no odor, the user does not have to worry about smelling bad during the day. Also, they do not turn the teeth yellow. Being low in nicotine, the body is not covered in bad smells and smoke. That makes everyone around you much more comfortable.

The fact is, e cigarettes just plain save you money and are better for your health. You will not only spend less per cigarette, but you will not have to pay a lot of the same taxes like a regular pack of cigarettes. You can buy a starter kit and this will last awhile. After that, you just buy the refill cartridges and you can save a lot of money per week.

It looks as though e cigarettes are the modern cigarette and the traditional tar cigarettes are on their way out. It may not be too long before you cannot find a regular pack of cigarettes anymore.

The internet is full of websites that will sell you all types of e cigarettes. Pretty much any flavor is available, you just have to look. If you are a smoker, these are really worth a try. You will not only be saving your health but you will be saving a lot of money. Plus, you will not have to deal with the public stigma that goes along with smoking. It is also nice being able to smoke anywhere that you want to. Once you try them, you will wonder how you ever smoked a regular cigarette. There really is that much of a difference.

Radiation: Cell Phone

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Mobile phone radiation is now an increasing interest among most human health experts over the recent years. As of last year, there are more than four billion registered mobile phone users throughout the whole world. This type of phenomenon cannot be ignored all on its own, considering it has now reached a global scale.

These mobile phones use electromagnetic waves that is in the range of radio and microwaves, both of which are what humans use for other activities as well. Aside from that, the real concern is the presence of microwaves, as most people are afraid of sticking a microwave source near their heads. Naysayers contribute their claims that these would make you dumb, or lose all sense as your brain is getting fried from the inside. But there is no solid evidence, no proof yet that this is true.

Even the World Health Organization has given a say on the matter regarding cell phone and mobile phone radiation. An announcement has been issued that it is rather unlikely for cellular phones or any of the large cell phone towers (called base stations) to cause cancers and tumors inside the brain or on any surface of the body that is usually exposed to the cell phone’s signals.

The European Commission Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks also gave out their side regarding to the emergence of these false rumors. Testing mobile phone radiation at an urban level, studies were conducted regarding the relationship of mobile phone radiation to symptoms of cancer. There was none whatsoever that could prove a relationship exists. Even the common pains like head aches, dizziness and nausea were ruled out. Brain cancer and neurological illnesses did not help at all.

There is also inconclusive data that cancer in the ear, specifically in the auditory nerve, can be caused by cell phone radiation. Also people have credited child retardation and cell phone use, especially with the use of pregnant mothers and their cell phones. But both have been dispelled and are not proven to be related at all.

What Everyone Needs To Learn About Identifying Early Signs Of Skin Cancer

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

If you have listened to the news lately you have heard all about the signs of skin cancer and how important early detection is. And yet, many people are still unable to tell what the signs of skin cancer are. They are missing the chance to detect it early when it is still easy to treat and the chances of survival are higher. Here are a few things that you should look for in some of the more common cancers.

Even people who do not know a lot about skin cancer have probably heard about malignant melanoma. This is because skin doctors stress the importance of identifying these fast spreading, deadly tumors. They are called melanomas because they start in moles and areas where melanin, the pigment factor in skin, is present. People with more melanin in their skin often have more of a protection against these tumors but it is no reason to go without sun screen if you will be outside.

If you want an easy way to detect melanomas, you should remember the “ABC’s” of skin cancer detection. You want to check the Appearance of a mole. You want to look at its Borders. And, lastly, the Color of that mole can be a key to whether or not it is malignant. A benign mole will not look different in a short period of time. It will have regular, even borders and be a normal brown color. Anything that is raised, fast growing, uneven or oddly colored should be assessed by a doctor as soon as possible. This makes your chances of survival much more likely.

The next form of skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma. These cancers do not start out life as a mole. Instead, they start off looking like several different things. They can look like a sore which will not heal, a small firm lump, or even a scar or reddish patch of skin. It is important to get any strange scars or marks on the skin checked out since it can mean that you are developing a basal cell carcinoma. They are serious but they rarely spread to other organs. Remember that even if the cancer is not spreading to other organs or systems it is still growing and if they are causing open weeping sores, you will not find them very attractive to look at.

Squamous cell carcinoma is another very common form of skin cancer. Like basal cell carcinoma these also start off as raised lumps, bumps or wart-like areas. They may also crust or scale over but may also open up and bleed or ooze on a regular basis. It can start out as a rough, red painful rash that may eventually form into a lump or bump and begin to grow from there.

If there are any areas that you are worried about or that look at all unusual, you need to see your doctor to have them looked at. The doctor will take a biopsy or sample of the cells in the area you are worried about. Depending on what they find, you will then begin an appropriate course of treatment depending on what stage the cancer is at, whether it has spread and what kind of skin cancer you have.

The kind of treatment can vary between people and cancers so you can see why an accurate and early diagnosis is as important as possible. It can mean the difference between survival and death and nobody wants to think they could have saved their life if they had taken the time to get in to see their doctor. Taking the time to learn how to recognize and diagnose possible skin cancers can be the best skill you have learned yet.

Even just a Mole can be a Early Signs of Skin Cancer If you have doubt any of these five signs of skin cancer please consult your physician immediately.

Chelation Therapy

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Chelation (pronounced key-LAY-shun) is a term derived from the Greek chele, meaning, “claw.” A chelation agent is a chemical agent that, like a claw, grabs and chemically bonds with metals or other minerals and toxins. Simply put, chelation is the process in which chemicals bind with minerals. While chelation is a naturally occurring biological process (hemoglobin binds with iron to provide oxygen to tissues), synthesized chelation agents were first developed during World War II as a way to clear toxic metals from the body. Chemists discovered they could create a ring of molecules, which surround or “sequester” mineral molecules and carry them from the body through normal elimination.

Chelation is a well-known method of heavy metal and toxin removal in which a special chemical compound called a chelate - such as dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA), dimercaptopropane sulfonate (DMPS), or ethylene diaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) - is given, usually intravenously. The chelate finds and forms a single attachment to the toxin with one reversible bond. With that bond intact, the toxin is grabbed onto, pulled off the cell and carried from the body. However, the toxin is not neutralized during this process and is potentially able to attach to other cells on its way out.

A synthetic amino acid, which has been useful as a heavy metal chelating material, is EDTA (Ethylene Diamine Tetra-Acetic Acid). It is an FDA-approved treatment for lead, mercury, aluminum and cadmium removal, and has been used for lead chelating for over 50 years. EDTA also assists in restoring blood vessels jammed with calcium and arterial plaque. Basically EDTA is non-toxic and has few noticeable side effects. Unfortunately, it can also chelate necessary minerals and other elements from the body, so the treatment should be supplemented with vitamins and minerals.

Chelation is the sole treatment used today for lead poisoning. But since the process removes other metals, too, in addition to mineral deposits, calcium-based plaques and other poisons, it benefits other medical conditions. Atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries by plaque deposits) and arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and diabetes can be treated with chelation, as it has a very positive effect on the bloodstream.

In the textbook of EDTA Chelation Therapy by Cranton, clinical studies and research has shown that EDTA chelation treatment is just as beneficial as bypass surgery and angioplasty, or even more effective. It’s hard to do double blind studies to prove or disprove the clinical results of bypass surgery or balloon angioplasty.

A complete program of chelation therapy involves dietary changes, away from highly refined and processed foods. The use of nonprescription nutritional supplements is emphasized, more than expensive and highly profitable drugs patented and marketed by the pharmaceutical industry. Chelation therapy is performed in doctors’ offices, without the need for hospitals, surgeons, cardiologists and the large team of health professionals who profit greatly in dollars and reputation from the $6 billion per year bypass surgery and balloon angioplasty. It is a well-proven therapy and has been performed on more people than have received bypass surgery.

Criticisms of chelation assert that the results have not been proven in double blind, controlled research. However, these critics of alternative medicine tend to be blind to the idea that most medical treatments, which are done daily in doctor’s offices and hospitals, are also “unproven” because they have not been researched in these strict criteria either.

In fact, the United States has the most advanced high technology hospital and surgical care in its history, yet 800,000 people die each year from arteriosclerosis and complications thereof. It is absurd to deny patients the option of undergoing EDTA chelation as a less expensive and at least just as effective alternative to surgery and angioplasty. The reduction in cost would be a great savings to medical insurance companies and hopefully result in lowered insurance premiums.

Chelation Improves Quality of Life

Chelation patients have a tremendous increase in their expected life, although the chelation doctors are reluctant to admit it. It turns out that intravenous chelation therapy greatly reduces the risk of cancer as well as further heart disease. The chelation treatment deals with basic sources of all illness — the tiny particles of metal, which accumulate over time and which greatly, increase the production of free radicals in the body. As the interior source of free radical production is reduced, by more than one million times, the acceleration of aging stops and people generally feel much younger.

When the toxic metals are removed from the body by intravenous chelation therapy, billions and billions of free radicals are prevented from being created because the metals are now gone. When they exist in the body, they encourage a huge production of free radicals.

It puts a stop to all toxins being created in the body, straight away.

The two major killing diseases in this day and age - heart disease and cancer - can be reversed and prevented.

What chelation handles is the damage caused by free radicals; the therapeutic benefit of the chelating substance in reducing free radical activity and even reversing damage that had been done by those free radicals is astounding.

Buy Resveratrol Anti Aging Pills Good Investment Or Wasted Cash?

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Should you buy anti aging supplements like Resveratrol is a question that I am often asked when discussing the benefits of nutritional supplements with people who contact me from any of my websites or when I am addressing a group of men and women.

Men and more so women find the prospect of turning back the clock an exciting proposition and it is for this reason more and more people have been attracted to buying Resveratrol anti aging supplements. It must seem very exciting the thought of taking a pill to make up for years of neglecting your health. Surely this is an opportunity to good to ignore and it is for this reason why Resveratrol is so popular at the moment. In fact the nutritional supplement industry as a whole is going through a boom period as people look for instant fixes with products like Resveratrol becoming increasingly popular.

Do Resveratrol Pills Actually Work?

It should not be ignored with the rapid growth of the nutritional supplement industry that there have been an increasing number of complaints and many users of such supplements have brought into question the effectiveness of some of the supplements they are buying and using often on a day to day basis. This should come as no surprise really as these products are not designed to cure illnesses but rather to enhance life which is very hard to quantify.

Can You Believe The Information Provided?

Is The Information Being Given True?

This on the face of it is good news for the future of Resveratrol but it won’t mean that everything you hear or read is actual fact. Like everything being sold today you may need to look carefully at any testimonials and evidence presented and ascertain if it is real or just marketing speak. I can however say from personal experience taking the Resveratrol I had that it made me feel better but it’s hard to say exactly why.

Does Resveratrol Really Come From Red Wine?

A lot of Resveratrol created and sold both over the counter in stores like Wal-Mart, GNC and others like them and on the net is manufactured from a plant called Japanese Knotweed and not as many are led to believe produced from red wine or even grapes themselves. The main rationale being that Japanese Knotweed not only contains better value and better quality Resveratrol but it is far more cost effective to manufacture in this way.

Where Should I Try Resveratrol

I feel through my own experiences that the best way at least initially is to try and buy Resveratrol is to take one of the free trails that are being offered online. These will give you a chance for a few months to see if this product works for you and even try different formulations of this popular supplement before you buy Resveratrol anti aging supplements on a regular basis.

But Will It Work?

There are currently a number of research projects on Resveratrol ongoing and interest has increased and it is being taken seriously by places such as Harvard and other well known institutions. It would seem there is a growing amount of evidence as to at least some of the benefits of Resveratrol pills but what they really do and how effective they are seems very much different for each individual who tries them.

It is quite hard to put forward any quantifiable evidence for the effectiveness of Resveratrol on humans as most information so far comes from testimonials (usually hard to confirm) and laboratory test on animals. So until these tests and trials are expanded to humans and positive measureable evidence provided the Resveratrol pills you see for sale currently will be sold only as nutritional supplements only under those sets of rules and regulations.

But be on your guard maybe one day this nutritional supplement will be sold in some form or other as an approved medical life enhancer who knows. On another day in another article I will let you in on some of the revolutionary research being done on supplements like Resveratrol anti aging supplements and how they could one day change your life.

How Does Sunscreen Work To Protect Your Skin From Skin Cancer

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Skin cancer is caused by being over exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. If a person is more genetically predisposed to be more sensitive to UV rays then there is more chance that skin cancer will develop. Typical signs that a person is predisposed to skin cancer is a family history of the disease or a pale complexion that burns easily in the sun. As sunlight is the number one way in which people get exposed to UV rays, much advice is given about how to take precautions so that sunlight does not lead to skin cancer. This article will discuss some of these ideas. In particular it will focus on how sunscreen can help protect your skin and minimize the chances of developing skin cancer.

The first thing to point out is that sunscreen should never be seen as the only thing you can do to limit your exposure to sunlight. It should be used in conjunction with some of the points mentioned below.

Avoid going out in the Sun when it is strongest. This means from around 11 in the morning through to 3 in the afternoon. Naturally, mid days is the worst time to be out in the Sun. Granted, this may not always be possible, especially if you work outdoors or leave the office for lunch. In this case take other precautions.

Wear clothing that can protect your skin form sunlight. Darker colored clothing works better than lighter colors. cover your arms and legs if practical or comfortable.

Always wear a hat in the Sun. A hat with a wide brim will protect your face and scalp from UV rays. Some people use a sun umbrella to protect themselves too.

Wear a good pair of sunglasses, as skin cancer can also affect the eyes.

After taking all these precautions you should then apply sunscreen. Cover parts of your body that are not protected by clothing and come into direct contact with the sunlight.

There are two general types of sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing UV rays. Physical sunscreens work by reflecting UV rays (or blocking them, hence the name sunblock that is sometimes used).

A way to determine the effectiveness of a sunscreen is to look at it’s Sun Protection Factor (SPF). The popular recommendation in this respect is to always go for an SPF of 30+. SPF pertains to the ability to protect the skin from UVB radiation that is thought to be the worst form of radiation for sun burn and skin cancer. However, it does not protect against UVA radiation, which researchers feel can be just as dangerous as UVB. Products that are known as Broad Spectrum sunscreens protect against both UVB and UVA rays.

Sunscreens that act as a sunblock are best if you have to spend plenty of time out in the Sun. No doubt you have seen people wearing such creams on the nose or lips. It is almost like a paint that they have applied to the skin. This puts many people off using such creams but they are the best way to protect your skin from the Sun.

Sunblock sunscreen will have either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide in them (they are also sometimes referred to as zinc cream). If you don’t appreciate having a large band of zinc cream across your nose then an alternative is ultramicronized titanium or zinc sunscreens. They are transparent but do the same job of reflecting UV rays.

Another aspect of sunscreen is that it will only last for around 2 hours so you must always reapply it after this time limit. It may be even shorter if you are very active or are swimming. You should also apply it before you go into the Sun and not once you are in it for obvious reasons but people often don’t do this.

Vinyl Chloride: A Dangerous Substance Used in Manufacturing

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Used in the production of many common products, vinyl chloride has been in our environment and surroundings for many years. Only recently was it discovered by government and society how dangerous this substance is to the health of people being exposed to it.

Vinyl chloride is used in industrial areas. When stored at room temperature, this organic compound is a colorless, sweet scented gas. It is highly unbalanced and burns easily at high temperatures.

Not occurring naturally, this substance is manufactured. It can be produced when substances such as trichloroethane, trichloroethylene, and tetrachloroethylene are broken down.

During the manufacturing process, these industries used vinyl chloride:

*Construction / building

*Automotive

*Industrial supplies and supplies for the home

*Equipment used in the medical field

*Rubber, paper, and glass businesses

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is used in the production of plastic products. Some examples of products that contain PVC are packaging materials, cable coating, pipes, and wire coating. Hairsprays and spray paints contained vinyl chloride during the 1950s and 60s as did aerosol spray propellants up until 1974.

Vinyl chloride has also been found in our atmosphere, our environment, and in the air. In 1999, the U.S. Environmental Agency found, in Mossville, Louisiana, vinyl chloride 100 times the amount allowed by law. It is commonly found in the atmosphere where around processing plants, landfills, and harmful waste sites.

The hair industry was in contact with vinyl chloride all day because it is an ingredient in the hairspray bottles. Those working to produce aerosol spray propellants were exposed to higher amounts of it. Also, those working in the production of vinyl chloride will have higher exposure to its vapors.

Studies have shown someone that was regularly exposed to vinyl chloride or polyvinyl chloride is more likely to develop liver, brain or lung cancer. Cancer in the blood has also linked to workers being exposed to vinyl chloride. Having regular exposure to vinyl chloride increases the risk of getting these conditions.

Vinyl chloride is a vascular toxin. It can cause a condition angiosarcoma, a tumor that grows fast. It can also change the structure of a persons liver. When it reaches to the liver, the liver changes it substance. These new substances then pass through the blood and kidneys, leaving through the urine. These substances are more harmful than vinyl chloride. Your body responds a certain way to natural chemicals in the body, the new substances will interject these reactions and respond to the chemicals themselves.

Exposure to vinyl chloride will affect the blood flow in you hands. It can cause bone deterioration called acroosteolysis. It will start with your fingers becoming numb and ulcer, to deformity because of loss of the bone.

The dioxins released while polyvinyl chloride is burning or being produced is a big concern. Not only can a person be exposed through air, but also if vinyl chloride meets eyes or skin, there can be damage. Exposure can be experienced as nerve damage, problems with the immune system and reproductive system. It is unknown of what the lowest levels of vinyl chloride are that can cause damages.

Chemotherapy and hair loss: What to expect during treatment

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

I would like to thank you for visiting and reading this article. The topic has been carefully researched and documented for your benefit.

Chemotherapy hair loss is one of the numerous effects of this cancer treatment. Why does one lose hair during chemotherapy? Well, the drugs used in this type of cancer treatment are very strong, therefore very efficient in attacking the rapidly developing cancer cells. There are normal body cells with a rapid growth rate, and they are not cancer; the cells in the digestive tract and the hair follicles are the main examples here. The effects of chemotherapy on hair are manifest for all the body parts covered by hair. Thus, patients will experience the loss of eyebrows, eyelashes, pubic and armpit hair.

The variety of the drugs used in chemotherapy is incredibly high with hundreds of medicines available. Some of these will trigger chemotherapy hair loss more quickly than others, but some may not even cause such a side effect. The concentration of the drugs is relevant for chemotherapy hair loss, and while some patients will experience thinning of the hair others will go completely bald. Thus, discussing the medication that will be prescribed with the doctor and nurse is very important as they are the specialists able to inform the patient on what to expect from chemotherapy.

Hair usually starts falling out after 10-14 days from the beginning of the treatment. It may fall out quite fast, either in clumps or gradually. Hair loss usually continues throughout the treatment and even one month after it. Half of the hair can fall out before this is noticed by people around. Luckily, in most cases, chemotherapy hair loss is a temporary effect. Hair can be expected to grow again within six months to one year from the end of the procedure. Although the regrowth of the hair occurs in most of the cases, the new hair could be of a different texture and shade temporarily.

The hair recovery period after chemotorapy is six weeks on the average, and the growth rate will be somewhere around a quarter inch per month. The changes that took place in the hair follicles during chemotherapy will be obvious in the way the hair grows back, but in time, things will get back to normal. The changes will be a first recovery sign and the hair will recover the look previous to the treatment the moment cellular pigmentation is functioning normally all over again. Unfortunately, one cannot prevent chemotherapy hair loss as none of the treatments available is completely free of such side effects.

Watch this site in the future for more great articles.
