Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

As a teenager taking care of your skin can be very difficult. With all of those hormones rushing around your body and all of the activities you are getting up to, making sure that your skin remains soft and smooth can be very difficult. Many teenagers suffer from problems with acne and serious breakouts of spots and as such there are certain things that you should remember when it comes to teen skin care.

Of course, the most important thing that you always need to remember is to keep your skin as clean as possible at all times. How can you possibly expect to have clear and clean skin if it is dirty? As such, you should create a decent routine that will enable you to wash every single morning and every single evening before you go to bed.

It is also important that you keep a routine and keep it simple. The more you get yourself into a good skin care routine, the more you will be likely to actually keep to it. As such, you should clean, moisturise, and exfoliate several times a week as part of this routine.

You also need to be fully aware of the different dirty items that might touch your skin. As such, you should make sure all of your clothing is clean at all times, and that your bedding is clean as well. It is no good cleaning your skin only to wear dirty clothes all sleep in a dirty bed.

It is also very important for you to make sure you resist the temptation to pick at different breakouts. It is certainly very tempting to do so, at in most cases all this will do will damage the area and potentially leave a short term or even long-term scar.

Last of all, make sure you are happy and confident in your own skin. As such, if you do have a breakout, you should realise that this is something that most teenagers will go through, and that you are certainly not alone.

Teeth Whitening Methods - Which Are The Best?

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Cosmetic dentistry is now a multi billion dollar field, with teeth whitening leading the way as more and more people are looking to restore the whiteness of their teeth and the brightness of their smile that has been diminished over the years by excessive coffee drinking, smoking, and many other factors. Teeth whitening can be undergone professionally, at the office of your dentist, or done at home due to the increasing availability of do-it-yourself kits and products now carried by many drug stores and supermarkets.

Professional teeth whitening typically involves the use of peroxide based bleaching chemicals and laser light. With so many people looking to improve their smile and their appearance, laser teeth whitening has become a very popular option.

Laser whitening is performed by a dental health professional in a dentist’s office and is a closely monitored procedure, making it the preferred treatment option for those with highly sensitive teeth. It is among the most effective of whitening techniques and in some cases teeth are whitened by as many as ten shades.

The laser whitening procedure begins with the removal of any plaque or other material that may be on the teeth. This is done to ensure the effectiveness of the whitening process. Then a whitening gel is applied.

A laser light is then applied to the gel in order to activate it. This increases the speed of the whitening process, as well as its effectiveness. The activation process works like this: crystals within the bleaching gel absorb the light’s energy, increasing its penetration of the teeth’s enamel and its teeth whitening power.

One of laser whitening’s greatest advantages is that satisfactory results are often achieved with just one treatment. This has served to make it the popular teeth whitening option that it has become. Occasionally though, more than one treatment may be required in order to whiten teeth to the degree the patient is looking for.

Are there any disadvantages to laser teeth whitening? A few. One is the price, which runs as much as $1000 per treatment, making it much more costly than other teeth whitening options. Another disadvantage is that occasionally teeth and gum soreness and pain results from the procedure, although it is typically only minor and relatively short lived.

Professional treatment in a dentist’s office is not the only option you have. There are many at home teeth whitening methods that employ a host of products available at your local pharmacy or supermarket. Among these products are teeth whitening strips, trays and toothpastes.

Trays yield the best results, but are often difficult to use properly. Toothpastes have never really proven to be all that effective. For both ease of use and effectiveness, whitening strips are a popular choice, although one major disadvantage is that a strip is unable to whiten an entire tooth.

Teeth whitening strips are designed to be used on either your bottom teeth or your top teeth, not both. They are made of plastic that have been coated beforehand with hydrogen peroxide, which serves as the whitening compound.

The peroxide whitening compound is applied as you press the strips securely onto your teeth. In order to see good results, they should be worn for about a half an hour twice each day over a two week period.

Spring 2009 Makeup Trends

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Well, spring is almost here. As the winter clothes come off, a new you waits to burst forth. No one wants to greet the warmer weather unless they look their best. You can put your best face and foot forward with this forecast for the spring 2009 makeup season.

What do people notice about you first? Is it the look of your eyes? If so, then give them something to dazzle them. The smoky look is in this season. That mysterious look works for day and evening activities. Men like a woman who hides secrets behind her eyes.

The smoky look is easy to create. First, take a dark eye liner and apply it to both the top and bottom of your eyelids along the lash line. Use another color such as a metallic or a light shade like lilac on the upper lid. For the final effect, smudge the liner and the shadow together.

False eyelashes go well with the smoky look. Avoid going too big unless the party warrants it. When you apply false eyelashes, keep the longer lashes towards the outer eye area.

You can tone down your smoky look during the day with softer features overall. Keep your face looking natural with mineral makeup foundation and a hint of color with mineral blush. Minerals blend with your skin for a flawless lightweight look and feel. Your eyes will still be the center of attention with a flawless face to complement them.

Mineral makeup comes in a variety of colors for eyes, cheeks and foundation. Before putting on any makeup, it is best to prep the face with a foundation. Mineral foundations are light and hide fine lines and wrinkles. The trend for blush is warm pinkish tones that complement the skin. With mineral blush, you can find a tone to bring out the warm highlights in any skin tone.

It’s okay to shimmer. Add a bit of sparkle to your eye color as well as your blush. Opt for crmes that contain shimmering ingredients to give your skin that sun kissed look.

Your lips need some attention too. Instead of heading straight for the blood red lipstick try something new. This season, choose a softer color to bring out that natural beauty. Find lip color in shades of pink and peach. A lip liner will accentuate the shape of your lips for that kissable appearance.

When the lips go soft so do the eyes. Instead of metallic colors to grace those lids, choose soft pastels like lilac and lavender. Stick to one coat of mascara and make it waterproof.

If you are a daring person, go for some color. Dull skin can be livened up with a racy shade of red on the lips. To complement this red and give a pouty yet provocative look, use cheek bronzer just under the cheekbone. Sweep from the cheek outwards to complete the look.

Darker metallic tones are great for winter but spring begs a brighter type of look. Add a splash of color to your lips and drama to your eyes or keep it soft and sweet with pinks, peaches and soft hues of purple for a natural face.

The Best Sensitive Skin Care Tips

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

If you have sensitive skin, you should develop a sensitive skin care treatment that works for you and steer clear of triggers, ie wool and latex, excessive sun exposure, and in some cases, certain foods. People who are prone to blushing, sunburn, or itching usually have naturally fair skin, while those unable to tolerate certain materials are said to have sensitive skin. Of course it is possible to have both fair and sensitive skin, and certain people find that their skin related problems are brought on by food allergies or stress.

Many people with sensitive skin find that natural skin care products work best. Skin care professionals often recommend these types of products to their patients as well, since they have been shown to be less likely to trigger skin reactions. Your diet is also a contributing factor when it comes to the health of your skin, and eating healthy vegetables and fruits and making sure that you drink enough water is another way to help improve the health of your skin. Certain individuals with severely sensitive skin have found that products containing herbal ingredients work well for them also.

The best skin care regimens consist of four important steps: cleansing, exfoliation, toning, and moisturizing. Choose gentle cleansing products and wash your face with lukewarm water and a soft twel to help your skin retain moisture. When it comes to exfoliation, again, it is important to choose gentle products that will not irritate your skin. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and smooth rough areas of the skin. Toners are designed to tighten skin and to help remove dirt and cleanser residue, and there are many available that are astringent free as well. Moisturizing products should contain sunscreen and should be applied one to three times a week, depending on the oiliness of your skin.

Sensitive skin care depends on the right skin care products, so make sure to pay close attention to ingredients and labels when choosing them. This is the best way to make sure that your skin stays healthy and radiant.

8 Tips for Staying Young Naturally

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Beauty may be skin deep but your age goes deeper still. Television says that creams can help but try a natural approach before picking up any of those other products. Aging gracefully is about more than what you can buy over the counter.

The environment and our own choices affect how our body ages inside and out. Sometimes we can hide these effects when we are younger but age shows it all. Gaining a youthful appearance depends on how we treat our body as a whole.

1. Hydrate your body. Your body is mostly water and it needs plenty of it to function. Water flushes out impurities and toxins from the body. Your skin will glow from a healthy amount of water each day.

2. Get regular physical activity. The heart and the lungs need a workout too. Working out for at least 30 minutes a day strengthens those organs and increases your oxygen supply to the brain for better concentration and focus. Exercise also releases those “feel good” endorphins that lighten our mood and lessen stress.

3. Maintain a healthy weight. Obesity is an epidemic in this country. Excess weight causes all sorts of conditions like hypertension, stroke, heart attacks, and heart disease. Those conditions are less likely to attack your body when you get rid of excess fat.

4. Visit your doctor. At least once a year everyone needs a physical. Doctors can conduct a battery of tests depending on your age to check for colon health, breast health, heart and lung health. Visiting a doctor is how many diseases like cancer are caught early and treated.

5. Use natural beauty treatments. Many products in the stores go a long way to appear organic and natural. Cut out the middleman and create authentic natural beauty with fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers.

6. Use sunscreen. The sun’s UV rays damage the delicate layers of your skin. Skin melanomas are all too common in our society today. If you like having fun in the sun, wear a sunscreen of the highest SPF to protect your body. Too much sun causes premature wrinkling and drying of the skin. Choose sunscreen containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide instead of chemicals.

7. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants neutralize the free radicals in your body that attack the body’s cells and cause us to age ungracefully. Leafy green veggies, orange and yellow veggies, and all types of citrus fruits contain antioxidants that keep you looking young. If you aren’t getting enough in your diet, consider taking antioxidant supplements.

8. Sleep well. Sleep is more important than people realize. The body uses our sleep time to repair itself. Without proper rest, you feel rundown and less able to focus. Your immune system is compromised and you start to catch every bug going around. Try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

How are you aging? There are several things you can do right now to put you on the road to long life and health. And, you’ll do it all with a youthful appearance.

Kabuki Makeup Brush: Choose the Right One for You

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Natural mineral makeup is here to stay. It enhances your beauty and the health of your skin at the same time. Not only is mineral makeup created from natural ingredients but it is made even more desirable by the brushes used to apply it.

The principle application tool for most makeup is the makeup brush. For mineral makeup you can use synthetic or natural hair makeup brushes. The best brush to use if you want to look your best is a Kabuki makeup brush.

Have you heard that name before? Maybe you’ve seen someone wearing kabuki makeup. The name comes from the Japanese theater. In ancient Japan, actors would perform with their makeup as a white background with various bold colors used to create different expressions for their characters.

Kabuki brushes are the principle way to apply your mineral makeup. The bristles are soft instead of hard and rigid. Makeup doesn’t clump using these brushes as it does so often when applying makeup with more traditional synthetic brushes.

Instead of packing on the powder, Kabuki brushes don’t need much in the way of makeup at all. A very little will go a long way. These brushes have rounded bristles that form a dome shape instead of a blunt end like most makeup brushes. Kabuki brushes provide a much more even coverage of your makeup. The bristles can be made of hairs from:

- Squirrel

- Sable

- Italian Badger

Kabuki brushes have soft natural hairs that won’t damage skin in the application. These bristles spread apart so that the mineral makeup can cling to the entire length of the hair. These bristles again part when they touch your face so that all of the makeup gets used.

Kabuki brushes come in natural and synthetic for mineral makeup application. Synthetic bristles have been known to cause skin irritations. Opt for one of the above natural hairs to avoid any such problems.

These brushes are great for mineral foundation, blush and eye shadows. Kabuki makeup brushes typically have shorter handles than more traditional makeup brushes for better control when applying foundation and cosmetic powders. Some brushes even have dispenser handles to hold your mineral makeup powder that are perfect for travel.

Kabuki makeup brushes are easy to clean as well. If you use your mineral makeup on a regular basis, brushes need to be cleaned once a week at least. Because of the natural hair, a small drop of your shampoo massaged into the bristles will clean the brush. Rinse thoroughly by swishing it in clean water and then squeeze as much water from the brush as you can. Fluff out the bristles and let it dry on a clean surface.

You don’t need to apply a lot of mineral makeup to get the desired effect. With a Kabuki brush, the rounded, dense bristles turn a little powder into sheer complete coverage for your face.
