How To Adopt The Suitable Mindset For Easy And Consistent Weight Loss

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Of all the health problems facing Americans today, perhaps the one that causes the most problems, and at the same time is the most preventable, is being overweight.

Two thirds of adults today are overweight, or obese. And this number is steadily rising. Being overweight can have an impact on many other aspects of both physical and emotional health.

The curious thing is that as more and more people are getting fatter and fatter, you can see more and more books and diets and fads cropping up.

If you venture into the weight loss section of your bookstore, you won’t find any lack of choices. Bread diets, protein diets, hot dog diets. You name it, somebody has written a book about it.

One of the reasons why it can be so difficult to lose weight, is that many times we think of losing weight as something unpleasant to quickly do and get over with. Like going to the doctor, or pulling of a bandage. The sooner it’s done, the better.

This doesn’t usually work, obviously. There are many reasons we are overweight besides simply not eating right and insufficient exercising. If it were that simple, everybody would be skinny and healthy. What are some of these reasons?

We live in a fast paced, information based society. Fast paced means we don’t have time to shop for or cook healthy food. Information based means that most of us work in jobs that required little or no physical exertion.

If we don’t put much thought into our health, it is almost automatic that we become overweight. The only way out of this problem is to make a conscious choice to change our lifestyle.

This isn’t easy. The best way is to make small changes over time. As these small changes become part of our normal, everyday life, we will notice changes in our health, and our weight.

To be taught these exceptionally effective exercises to lose weight stop by today to learn how to loose weight fast

Hoodia, The Wonder Drug

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Hoodia Gordonii is a flowering plant that belongs to the family Apocynaceae. It is a plant that reaches up to 1 meter in height. It has large purple or tan color flowers with strong smell. It is also called locally xhooba, Ghaap and khoba. It is also known as ‘Queen of the Namib’ and ‘Bushman’s Hat’. Hoodia is found naturally in Southern Africa in the semi-deserts of the countries of Namibia, South Africa, Botswana and Angloa. It is particular to the Namib Desert.

Hoodia is traditionally eaten by the San Bushmen who live in the Kalahari desert. These nomadic people eat the Hoodia stem to suppress their hunger when they are out on long hunting trips. The plant was also used by them for hemorrhoids, severe abdominal cramps, indigestion, tuberculosis, diabetes and hypertension. There are some twenty varieties of Hoodia. Of them, it is only the Hoodia Gordonii variety that suppresses natural appetite. Hoodia plants flowers in about five years after which it can be harvested.

The fact that the San Bushmen used Hoodia was first noted and reported to the outside world by a Dutch anthropologist in 1937. A scientific examination of the plant of its reported benefits however commenced only in 1963 when the national laboratory of South Africa, CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) began to study the plant. Along with the scientists of a British company, Phytopharm, they isolated the active ingredient of Hoodia. This ingredient, a steroidal glycoside, was named p57. It soon began to be commercially exploited and sold worldwide through the health food stores. Sold in the capsule and liquid form, much has been written about it in h57 hoodia reviews. Hoodia is marketed as an appetite killer for those who wish to lose weight and control obesity. Hoodia is found to send signals to the brain than makes you feel that you are full.

The extensive harvesting of Hoodia has led Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to include it in the list in Appendix II. This means that Hoodia stands the risk of it being declared as an endangered species if its trade is not effectively controlled. It was listed in 2008 by the Botanic Gardens Conservation International as being threatened with extinction due to over-extraction. Hoodia is now cultivated in the government controlled farms in the Kalahari Desert. Royalty is also now shared with the San Bushmen.

Almost everything that we need is provided by nature. Thus, we should never abuse nature, instead we take care of it.

How To Get The Best Liposuction Price

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Many things can affect a liposuction price quote. The type of liposuction procedure you choose is one important factor. As an example, ultrasonic liposuction is generally more expensive than tumescent liposuction. The size of the area and the amount of fat to be removed are also important. The price is typically higher for men than for women. This is because fat in males is denser and more difficult to remove.

Sometimes you can save a lot of money by traveling to have the procedure done. In regions where the cost of living is higher, such as Los Angeles, liposuction prices are also higher. Some patients decide to take an extended vacation to a scenic area for the procedure and enjoy the view while they recover.

Beware of telephone estimates. They are only a rough estimate of the actual cost of the procedure. Most surgeons will usually want to examine a patient to provide an accurate estimate of the liposuction price. Use caution with surgeons who are not willing to provide a written estimate. Sometimes these surgeons tack on lots of hidden fees after the surgery.

Ask for a global estimate that includes all expected fees. Fees usually fall into two main categories: surgical and non-surgical. The price a surgeon charges for his or her services is considered a surgical fee. Non-surgical fees typically include operating room fees, anesthesia, post-op compression garments, laboratory fees or additional treatments like laser therapy and ultrasound. Be sure to discuss all the anticipated costs with your surgeon before the procedure. Be careful if you receive an unusually low liposuction price quote.

What sounds like a great deal may result in minimal work that was actually done, and you find yourself with a big bill but no noticeable results. The lowest price can sometimes be the most expensive in the long term. Additional surgery is sometimes needed if you experience irregular results due to uneven skin appearance, excessive liposuction, large scars or disfigurement.

There are many different ways to pay for liposuction. Some practices offer tailored payment plans that can be customized to fit your resources. Some patients choose financing, either through a bank or a finance company. Many surgeons take credit card payments. Always make sure the payment plan you choose is within your budget, and always think carefully before taking on debt.

FDA prefers Fat Americans

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Over the past 20 years, we have become fat. There is no other way to say this. Obesity is an epidemic in the USA For adults and increasingly, for children. Over the same period, intake of calories from soft drinks has more than doubled for Americans (see Obesity and Soft Drinks). We now get more of our calories from soft drinks than from fruit, vegetables, grains, meats, or any other food group. Are we meant to feed ourselves with liquids?

How did this happen? A University of North Carolina study showed that caloric intake from soft drinks in the United States increased 135 percent between about 1977 and 2001. Over the same time period, calories from milk dropped 38 percent. Red Bull’s sales over the same period increased by an even larger percentage. And as Coke expands across the world, the world is steadily following in our footsteps towards obesity.

In order to curtail this problem, big pharma has come up with all kinds of prescription drugs to deal with the symptoms of obesity. The most readily available are the artificial sweeteners concocted by the likes of Monsanto and ADM. These artificial sweeteners (sucralose, sucrose). These significantly reduced the caloric value of soft drinks.

The only problem with these sweeteners is that many people think they’re dangerous. There are many studies that link these products to different forms of cancer (see Dangers of Aspartame). While these studies are far from conclusive, many consumers are nonetheless searching for more natural substitutes.

One of these options is Stevia. This all-natural sweetener has been around for centuries in many parts of the world; from Morroco, to Japan, to Argentina. Stevia is also very popular as an alternative to sugar for diabetics. Recent research points to Stevia as a potentially very beneficial deterrent to Type II diabetes. Besides its medicinal properties, Stevia is a simply a good natural alternative to sugar to reduce our caloric intake.

Sadly, our dear US government, in its wisdom, has opined that Stevia could potentially be unsafe. Although the studies they point to have been publicly denouced, what it comes down to, in my humble opinion, is this: Its hard to make money off of a natural product like Stevia. You cannot patent it and without a patent, anyone can produce and sell it. Not good for commercial outfits like Cargill (HFCS) or Monsanto (Aspartame) or Tate & Lyle (Splenda). (breaking news: FDA has now allowed Stevia, but only if used by Coke or Pepsi in an expensive trademarked formulation!)

As a result, there are few products made with Stevia. Natural low calory energy drinks or soft drinks are rare despite increasing demand from health-conscious consumers. Here are a few that I’ve tried.

Soft Drinks: Virgils: Hard to locate in stores. Good range of products (Cream Soda is my favorite). Tastes good and also uses other natural ingredients. Virgils Sodas. Also available in health food stores.

Energy Drinks: GURU Lite: This is the only all-natural energy drink I’ve found out there. It is sweetened with Stevia and Luo Han Guo. It tastes great and works even better. I bought it online at the company’s website : www.guruenergy.com. They also produce organic energy drinks.

Another product I like and occasionally buy is Zevia: Doing well at Whole Foods. Taste (or lack thereof) might be an issue for some consumers. http://www.zevia.com. Also available in other health food stores.
