What Is Supraspinatus Tendonitis?

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Supraspinatus tendonitis or what is commonly known as rotator cuff tendonitis is the most treated form of tendonitis. The rotator cuff is made up of many tendons and it is the supraspinatus tendon that connects the shoulder blade to the arm bone, and it is the tendon that is most susceptible to tendonitis.

The leading cause of this condition is repetitive movement, such as the arm movements required for playing tennis and a number of other sports. While a number of sports can result in a person suffering from supraspinatus tendonitis, certain sports are more likely to cause the condition than others. Either way, the pain and discomfort can be unbearable.

People that play tennis and baseball, as well as swimmers, and golfers are all at risk of getting tendonitis. Nonetheless, supraspinatus tendonitis does not affect individuals that play sports, but also certain jobs have a higher risk of developing this condition. Occupations such as carpentry, painting, and decorating are known to cause this problem. The condition will start in the shoulder of the arm that gets used most often.

How can you tell if you have supraspinatus tendonitis?

Usually the condition will begin with pains in the shoulder, but for some people it can spread down the arm and even across the chest area. Any arm movement can lead to a lot of pain. Sufferers will also see that sleeping can be hard because any weight being placed on the arm or shoulder will cause much pain.

If you do not get treatment, the problem will turn increasingly worse and soon it will be impossible to move the arm without feeling a lot of pain. When it gets to this point, people with the problem will do their best to not move their arm, what happens then is that the shoulder joint will become increasingly stiff.

As well as experiencing pain and stiffness, you may also get bruising and visible swelling around the affected area. There may also be redness around the shoulder area and in that case, it will be tender if touched.

Treatments

If the condition gets to a late phase, there is no other choice but to go and seek the help of a doctor. Often medications like painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs are used in a combined effort of physiotherapy to bring back the movement. If the problem results in the tendon being badly damaged, you may need surgery.

If you play a sport or do a job that requires much repetitive arm movements, and you start experiencing a dull ache in your shoulder, do not ignore the pain thinking that it will go away. Know that rotator cuff tendonitis can result in much pain and because of that reason; you must get help as soon as possible.

Find Out How You Can Find Relief Using Carpal Tunnel Treatment

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

A relatively new treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome, The Carpal Solution is a new wearable CTS treatment which can, according to its manufacturers, relieve the symptoms of CTS; the pain, numbness and tingling as well as the sleep difficulties caused by these symptoms in as little as a couple of days.

Like many other CTS treatments, The Carpal Solution is an over the counter product. However, it has some important differences which set it apart from other wearable CTS treatments. It is worn while you sleep like a night splint, stretching the carpal tunnel’s surrounding tissues to relieve the pressure on the median nerve. Unlike a wrist brace, the Carpal Solution is made from a light, breathable and hypoallergenic material which won’t cause sweating. The product is reusable, so it can be worn any time that CTS symptoms are causing a problem. It’s also small and easy to store or carry along when traveling.

Another great thing about the Carpal Solution is the fact that it’s only meant to be worn during sleep. It is removed during waking hours. This means that if you’re someone with an active lifestyle or very demanding job you won’t have any interference from your CTS treatment. This can also mean that you don’t have to miss work or miss a competition if you’re an athlete.

This is a CTS treatment which makes cortisone injections and other pharmaceutical interventions unnecessary, not to mention surgical treatment. This represents an enormous savings of time and money, as well as the risk of complications from a surgical procedure. There is also no risk of muscle atrophy (something which has been a problem for many CTS sufferers with other treatments) when using the Carpal Solution treatment, since it doesn’t restrict movement like many other wearable CTS treatments which immobilization to reduce pressure on the median nerve.

The Carpal Solution seems to have a lot of advantages which would make it the go-to treatment for carpal tunnels syndrome; it’s certainly a great alternative to injections, drugs and surgery. However, it doesn’t work for everyone with CTS - it operates in much the same way as night splints, which don’t work for everyone. However, there are other options available which can provide a cure for your carpal tunnel syndrome. There are CTS exercises which anyone can do and are safe, free, easy to do and can cure your CTS once and for all.

Ergonomics & Posture - The Secret To Lower Back Tension Reduction

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

If you happen to look at a large majority of people sitting on chairs, you are going to see that they are either slouching, lounging or just leaning back, relaxing in a manner which does no good to their spinal cord.

The idea of sitting in a chair, according to those people, is to rest your posterior in a chair seat, lean back with a relieved sigh, fold your hands complacently over your tummy and do a spot of deep meditation. This might relax you a lot in the beginning, but it does absolutely nothing to your posture, spinal cord, back, neck, and of course your tummy. Pain and strain are sure to follow.

Most people have a problem with focusing on anything else other than work when its in between 9 to 5. What happens is that most people get so wrapped up in their work that they stop paying attention to their posture while sitting in front of that computer all day. This will lead to a tremendous amount of back and neck pain making it hard to focus on anything.

What happens to most people is that they find themselves sitting behind a desk all day, and with out exercise the muscles in their body doesn’t have the strength to give good posture. The best way to combat this problem that millions of people have is by taking a step back and looking at the ergonomics and the proper way to sit in a chair.

Forget about those deep cushioned chairs which make you sink down and do nothing to your spinal cord. Your chair seat needs to be tilted a bit forward, so that the lower back is curved naturally and falls into place the moment you sit down. The front has to be a bit lower than the back portion of your chair seat.

Do not put a major portion of your body weight upon your hip bones. Some weight has to be placed upon the portion of your body, which can support it, your feet. Make sure that your feet are touching something solid. This is the easiest way to get a good posture.

Posture is something that most people who slouch have to think about to correct it. Its a mental thing when trying to correct it, because you body will just naturally go to the position you have been putting it in. You need to train the mind to sit in that position all the time in order to correct it.

One of the other things that people do not realize up front is how their computer is set up can sometimes hurt their posture as well. This stems from putting your computer screen in a place that requires strain on the neck in order to read the screen. If you have your computer sitting at eye level it will take a tremendous amount of strain off your spinal cord. This happens because you are not required to look up or down for long periods of time, and can keep a good posture while sitting there.

One of the best things you can do to start the transformation of your posture is to do exercises to strengthen your neck and back muscles. This will make it easier to support your corrected posture making it easier to do.

Most people try and correct their posture and fail at it miserably because they do not try hard enough. Teaching the body to do something it doesnt want to do can be hard. However, with the right discipline you can get the posture corrected and be on your way to a healthier, happier life!
